Barcelona joins the network of authentic cities

Barcelona City Council has been one of the latest municipalities to join the European Network of Authenticities.

Authenticities is a project that has been in progress for several years by the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights of the EUIPO, within the framework of its European cooperation activities and the Strategic Plan 2025.

The group of experts and interested parties that form it have as their main objective to promote protection and awareness in matters of industrial property, as well as to support the fight against counterfeiting and piracy.

Any city that has acted proactively in defending its local commerce and against the sale of counterfeit products is a candidate to belong to this network.

Barcelona has been a member of the network since June 2024, followed by the small towns of other major Spanish cities that are already part of Authenticities, such as Madrid, which joined in 2021, and Saragossa, in 2022.

Initiatives like this are a great step towards ending the spread of counterfeiting on the streets of our citizens and the damage they cause not only to the holders of the violated rights, but also to our society and economy.
