The Slovak Republic is a landlocked country in the heart of Europe. The country borders Poland to the north, the Czech Republic to the west, Austria to the southwest, Hungary to the south and Ukraine to the east. The Slovak Republic comprises 49,035 square kilometres. Originally part of Czechoslovakia, it is divided into eight regions, and the capital is Bratislava.
The Slovak Republic has a population of approx. 5.45 million (information provided by the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic in 2021). The majority of inhabitants are Slovaks; the national minorities are Hungarians, Czechs, Poles, Ukrainians and others. The official language is Slovak.
