Alfredo Rodríguez

Alfredo is a partner of Consortium Legal – Guatemala. With 43 years of professional experience in the food and beverage, financial services, real estate, pharmaceutical, manufacturing and startup sectors; he has experience in advising tax and corporate matters, related to M&A transactions, private equity investments, financial transactions, foreign investment in Guatemala and Guatemalan investment abroad. He also advises individuals and family groups on estate and succession planning.

He has been a university professor of tax law at both undergraduate and master’s level at the Universidad Francisco Marroquín.  At the undergraduate level for 25 years and at the master’s level he continues to teach tax law. He is a founding member and was the first president of the International Fiscal Association (Guatemala); he is a member of several local and international tax associations.

WORK HIGHLIGHTS

• Advising on the reorganisation of the structure and shareholder agreement of a leading commercial group in Guatemala.
• Advising on the planning of the potential generational transition of a leading industrial group in Guatemala, from the perspective of the tax effects of the change of residence and citizenship.
• Advising a leading fruit exporting group on the process of entering Europe, which will be done jointly with a European company.
• Advising a leading agricultural group on the protection of foreign investment.
• Advising an international coffee exporting company on various tax legal actions.
