Mónica is a senior associate at Consortium Legal – Costa Rica with more than 24 years of experience. She has experience in banking & financial sectors, legal advice in commercial and regulatory matters, compliance, among others. During her career Mrs. Arias served as in-house counsel in one of the state-owned banks of Costa Rica for approximately eleven years.

During her career, she worked as a lawyer in one of Costa Rica’s state-owned banks for approximately 11 years and currently advises local and international banks, multilateral entities, and Fintech companies. Monica has participated in different processes of acquisition, merger, and sale of financial institutions. She has also participated as advisor to structuring banks in international bond issues of the Government of the Republic of Costa Rica, state-owned banks, among others.

Work Highlights

  • dvised Banco Davivienda (Costa Rica) as to Costa Rican Law on a US$250 Million debt issuance secured by a portfolio of USD denominated Diversified Payment Rights (“DPR’s”);
  • Advised J.P Morgan Securities LLC and Bank of America – Merrill Lynch as to Costa Rican Law, on a US$500 million Rule 144A issuance and purchase of international notes by Banco Nacional de Costa Rica.
  • Advised BofA Securities, Inc. and HSBC Securities (USA) Inc. as to Costa Rican Law, on a US$300 million Rule 144A issuance and purchase of international notes by Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE).
