The amendment to the Act on Compulsory Contractual Insurance introduces EU legislation into the Slovak legal order, which brings several changes in the field of PZP.
Among other things, according to the new “motor vehicles” that are obliged to have closed PZP are also independent non-track vehicles with their own mechanical drive with the greatest ( i ) design speed of more than 25 km/h or ( ii ) operating weight of more than 25 kg and with a maximum design speed of more than 14 km/h, i.e. various electric scooters, electronic bicycles or segways.
The amendment entered into force on August 1, 2024, therefore owners of electric scooters and other vehicles meeting the above definition of a motor vehicle should take out a PZP as soon as possible so as not to violate the law. Time will tell if this measure will increase safety on our roads and sidewalks.
