The arrival of Violeta Libergott marks DLA Piper’s first lateral hire to its São Paulo-based foreign law consultancy.
Libergott has worked as an associate in the São Paulo office of Jones Day for the last nine years, where she advised on several large transactions. In 2022, she helped US plastics manufacturer Avient buy Dutch chemicals group DSM, including its operations in Latin America, for US$1.5 billion. Prior to that, she advised a subsidiary of French energy group Engie in its joint acquisition with Canadian fund Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec of Petrobras’ remaining 10% stake in Brazilian gas pipeline company TAG.
Libergott, who is licensed to practise in both Brazil and New York, started her career at Brazilian firm Chediak Advogados.
DLA Piper acts as a foreign legal consultancy practice under US law in São Paulo. Libergott will practise New York law at the firm. Managing partner Bruno Soares describes his new colleague as “an excellent lawyer with extensive experience in high-stakes cross-border M&A transactions in the US, Brazil and across Latin America.”
